Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh's Official visit to Singapore:

His Excellency Pham Binh Minh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam made an Official Visit to Singapore from 30 to 31 July 2018, ahead of the 51stASEAN Foreign Ministerial Meetings and Related Meetings.  Deputy Prime Minister Minh's visit is taking place as Singapore and Vietnam celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 5th anniversary of the Singapore-Vietnam Strategic Partnership this year.


Deputy Prime Minister Minh paid courtesy calls on Singaporean President Halimah Yacob and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Deputy Prime Minister Minh, his spouse and the Vietnamese delegation also laid flowers at the President Ho Chi Minh statue at the Asian Civilisations Museum Green. 


Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan hold talks on July 31

Deputy Prime Minister Minh had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan, who also hosted him to breakfast.  Both sides reaffirmed the excellent relations between Singapore and Vietnam, marked by the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year and expressed their commitment to strengthen economic and financial cooperation under the Singapore-Vietnam Strategic Partnership which is in its fifth year. They also discussed regional developments, including ASEAN and the importance of deepening economic integration through the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).


They noted the strong economic and people-to-people relations between the two countries, underpinned by warm ties between the leaders. Deputy Prime Minister Minh welcomed more Singapore investments and assured that Vietnam would provide a pro-business environment in Vietnam. Deputy Prime Minister Minh and Minister Balakrishnan agreed there is potential to enhance air connectivity between Singapore and Vietnam, and within the region. They also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the principles for the operation of the Vietnam-Singapore Cooperation Centre in Hanoi which would enhance bilateral cooperation in human resource development. Deputy Prime Minister Minh expressed support for Singapore's ASEAN Chairmanship and looked forward to the Ministerial discussions at the 51st ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting and Related Meetings from 1 to 4 August 2018.       

 Deputy Prime Minister Minh and his spouse attended the Vietnam Culture Day in Singapore to mark 45th anniversary of the diplomatic relations. The event is a vivid illustration for the joint efforts in enhancing mutual understanding and cultural exchange.
